TRENDS BECOME MORE FLUID
Trends don’t come from catwalks and they aren’t concocted by stuffy old men in glass offices. The power has shifted. Control now comes from real people making a statement about who they are, what they believe and what they want. Trends are global. They are interconnected and they are fluid. If you slow down and listen, you will discover themes being whispered, then screamed. It’s your job to choose the themes you love and make them yours. Be open. If you can’t decide, then know that we’ve been listening and we will help you create a unique style.
BECS B ON TRENDS
When we looked and listened, the themes that spoke loudest to the Becs B team are these. I hope you’re not disappointed that insect trends are too unwearable for us and the idea of mismatched earrings is too 80s. Remember that true style can’t be prescribed, it must be developed, and classic is never boring.
Aubergine is the designated colour of 2018, but yellow, red, green and even pink grace the streets of London this autumn. The best way to wear this trend is to ignore whatever rules your mum taught you, clash colours and wear summer colours in winter.
BOLD SHE GOES
This trend isn't for wallflowers or the timid. Top designers took their cues from the 80s—which weren't known for the most flattering fashion (despite the return of the mum jean)—but we didn't follow the AW18 fashion rules exactly. Plastic isn't a jewellery statement and one monstrous earring isn't wearable. Our take on the trend: choose one statement piece of jewellery and pare down the rest. Our favourite items in this collection include the B Infinite earrings and the double layer amethyst necklace a close second.
LAYER, STACK, PILE ON
Layer, stack, pile on and have fun interpreting this trend. While there are no strict rules, BECS fell in love with a chunky layer on the neckline mixed with a longer, more subtle layer (think choker with pendant and long wrap chain). Here's a tease: This trend is set to dominate SS19. At some stage we'll stop calling layering a 'trend' because it appears every year and every season (since long before Madonna sang 'Like a Virgin' or SJP donned her Carrie necklace throughout the streets of New York).
The quintessential statement of a proper lady has regained her rightful place on every AW18 catwalk from New York to Milan. But these aren't your granny's pearls, they're big, baroque, coloured and mixed. Becs and team have styled our pearls with layers, silver chokers, pendants and statement bracelets. Go big. Go bold.
